How to read a World Bank contract award notice (and use it to price your next bid)

Award notices are the most underused intelligence in development procurement. Of the 679 energy and water contract awards we analysed, 625 stated a signed contract price.

Fields to read:

Awarded bidder and country: who won, and whether they are local or foreign.
Bid price at opening vs evaluated bid price: the gap shows corrections and adjustments made during evaluation.
Signed contract price: the final number, which can differ again after negotiation.
Evaluated and rejected bidders: your real competitors, with their prices. This is pure benchmarking data.
Duration: helps you estimate monthly run-rates for similar contracts.

How to use it: before bidding, find 3–5 awards for similar scope in the same country. Note the winning price range and how many bidders were evaluated. Then decide whether to bid alone or team with a local firm that keeps winning.
